Control stress and anxiety productively
Stress is a common phenomenon to which we are all exposed in modern life, but its impact varies from person to person, depending on how they deal with it. If you knew you had the confidence to handle any situation, what would you worry about?
'Fight or Flight' is a basic human instinct and was once essential to our survival. It was also, however, a response which was designed to be 'short-lived' - the danger appeared and we chose immediately how to respond. If the danger was a wild animal and we chose to fight and won the battle, we would know immediately that the danger had passed and that we could now safely relax again. The problem with stress in modern society is that it tends to persist. We worry about all sorts of things and prolonged stress is extremely damaging to our health.
How we respond in any given situation is usually based on a 'blue-print' that we created in the past and have stored in our sub-conscious mind, (see 'what is the sub-conscious mind'). We constantly draw on past experience to deal with events as they unfold in the present. We can, however, utilise our imaginations to develop alternative responses which are not only more helpful to us, but which also protect our good health.
