1. What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a means of communication which usually takes place in a trance state and is designed to access a persons subconscious mind. There are many misconceptions with regard to hypnosis, both in relation to what it is, and what it involves. Unfortunately, much of this uncertainty is due to misrepresentation in films and books, which have lead to many people fearing the ‘power‘s of hypnosis. (Ironically, the fact that so many people have come to fear hypnosis in this way is testament to the power of hypnosis!).

However, hypnosis is not brain washing. At no time, is a person in trance, out of control. In fact, hypnosis can actually heighten awareness. A hypnotherapist cannot incite a person to do or say anything that they don´t want. Hypnosis is a means of communication that influences the recipient by the use of positive suggestion. It is no more manipulative than common advertising, and as with advertising, the person receiving it always has the choice of whether to accept the message or to discard it.
